  • Overview

    The Systems Administrator - Junior/SOC Analyst will perform a variety of complex assignments associated with managing and controlling computer information systems. The position will be part of a small IT team working on multiple information systems in a high-demand setting ensuring the uninterrupted and secure day to day operation of the cyber security program.


    • Must be able to support the daily maintenance, configuration, and security of servers, workstations, and other network peripherals in a mixed Linux and Windows environment.
    • Assist with Operations and Maintenance duties of backups, application maintenance, and OS patching, tuning, and troubleshooting

    • Must be able to configure and manage Linux and Windows operating systems and install/load operating systems software, troubleshoot, maintain integrity and configures network components along with implementing operating systems enhancements to improve reliability and performance
    • Work comfortably with resolving user desktop problems and basic server administration
    • Configure user access, end-user applications, and assist with other duties, as requested.
    • Develop detailed documentation to describe OS and COTS product deployment, configuration, upgrading, and maintenance for Change Management requests.
    • Adhere to Change Management processes
    • Must be able to multi-task a variety of projects and tasks
    • Be a technical resource for individual projects when his or her knowledge and experience meet the requirements of the project group
    • Participate in the scheduling and executing of weekly maintenance
    • Provide on-call support for mission critical systems (rotational on-call)
    • Occasional travel is required (less than 15%)


    • 3+ years of information technology experience with 1+ year of experience administering Linux workstations and servers or Windows workstations and servers
    • Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field or equivalent work experience and training (7+ years of equivalent technical work experience may substitute degree)
    • Knowledge of Linux commands, applications, and security configuration in Red Hat Enterprise Linux/CentOS/Fedora and, optionally, Ubuntu
    • Knowledge of management of systems and the required security guidelines associated with secure facilities
    • Working knowledge of Windows system administration (user management, audit logs, file permissions)
    • Familiarization with VMWare vSphere Hypervisor, VMWare or equivalent virtualization experience
    • Strong Communications Skills
    • General experience with VPNs
    • Must have basic knowledge of LAN and WAN networking
    • Must have experience in remote administration
    • Must have basic knowledge of web hosting and web services
    • Must be able to work collaboratively with other systems engineers, network engineers, and developers
    • Basic documentation skills. 

    Desired Requirements:

    • Knowledge of Active Directory administration (users, groups, group policy, organizational units).
    • Nagios Monitoring experience
    • Information assurance implementation experience based on JAFAN 6/3 and DCID 6/3, including System Security Plans (SSP), user training, certification & testing, and security assessment support.
    • Familiarity with Kernel Virtual Machine (KVM).
    • A Linux administration certification (RHCSA, LFCS, or greater).
    • A Windows certification (MCP, MCTS, MCSA, etc.)
    • A systems security certification (CISSP, Security+ CE, etc).
    • Familiarity with task automation
    • Familiarity with firewall, switches, and other network hardware and configuration.
    • Knowledge of storage area network (SAN) infrastructure (i.e. Brocade, NetApp)
    • Knowledge of Windows Systems such as:
    • Microsoft Server 2008/2012/2012 R2/2016
    • Windows 10
    • Microsoft DHCP/DNS Server
    • Basic Knowledge of SQL Server 2012/2014
